processing loss...

Today, as I sit here spending time with Willow and Tessa, I see expressions and faces of the past looking back at me, and the grief hits like a punch in the gut. And I cry tears of loss and of being grateful all at the same time.

Processing the loss…

Grief is a sneaky little beast, especially when it comes to losing your beloved Collies. Picture this: you're cruising down a beautiful, bright road, the sun is shining and you’re feeling on top of the world, and suddenly, bam! Tears start streaming down your face, triggered by a random song or the faint whiff of a favorite treat. It’s like your heart has a mind of its own, dragging you back to that gut-wrenching moment of loss. It’s a harsh reminder that, even on the brightest days, the shadow of grief can loom large.

What nobody tells you is that your brain becomes a relentless movie projector, playing the painful scenes on repeat. You might find yourself lost in thought, reliving the heartache with the tears streaming down your face, as if it just happened yesterday. It’s frustrating, to say the least. You’ll catch yourself shaking your head, taking deep breaths, and whispering affirmations like “I’m okay,” even when doubt lingers in the air. It’s a daily battle, and sometimes you just have to give yourself a pep talk to break free from that emotional loop.

And let’s be real—grief doesn’t come with an expiration date. It’s unpredictable, popping up when you least expect it. Some days, you might feel like you can conquer the world, while others leave you feeling utterly defeated. The key takeaway? You don’t have to navigate this rocky road alone. Check in on your friends and family who might be hiding their pain behind a smile. Those who seem “strong” often carry the heaviest burdens. So, lend an ear, share a memory, and remind them they’re not alone in this journey.

When we lost our Collies, I grieved so hard that I remember looking at Marc and yelling Why? Just tell me what good could possibly come from this loss? He replied; Empathy and Compassion for others. I was reminded on that day of why I love him.

Remember to Lift one another up always. Sometimes we don't need to understand the why of what has happened as much as you just need to have compassion and empathy for those hurting. The pain of our losses is real.

Love to all of you,

Suzi Newman and Marc Newman
